Client Aspirations
To reconfigure and extend their existing dwelling from small compartmental rooms to provide new open plan living/dining/kitchen space, additional bedroom and bathroom. Situated in a busy part of Dublin, the client requested that links to outside garden was important.
Challenges
Existing 1920’s house, site adjoining the Phoenix (city) Park, restrictive area internally and externally
Our Response
Reconfiguration of an existing dwelling involved adding a stair and upstairs bedroom and bathroom to the loft and knocking some formerly cellular spaces on the ground floor to transform the rear portion of the house into an open plan living/dining/kitchen space. Large new portions of glazing were introduced to offer greater connection to the garden and views to the natural stone wall bounding the Phoenix Park, with some carefully placed rooflights added to maximise natural light.
