Client Aspirations
Client wished for a family home and garage with a rural bespoke contemporary style. Provision of natural light was important and client preferred large areas of glazing to maximise the view from the site.
Challenges
This site is located in the rural countryside in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on a farm; had to minimise any potential impact on character and appearance of the landscape; integration of the new dwelling in the countryside
Our Response
The new sustainable dwelling has been designed to be in keeping with the character of the immediate area and existing buildings to aid its integration within its context. This contemporary modern building implements vernacular architecture with a strong emphasis on natural sustainable materials and building traditions. The building gives the impression of a traditional linear, storey and a half barn type building providing a unique identity to the site and local area. The dwelling uses a mixture of natural local stone and timber cladding throughout with a slate roof. Accommodation includes open plan kitchen/dining/living to be the heart of the house, utility area, separate lounge, playroom, 5 ensuite bedrooms, main bathroom, external covered area with patio and a garage with games/entertainment room above.
