Client Aspirations
Our clients sought a bespoke contemporary rural home that maximised natural light and views, while retaining the historic cottage. They wanted generous open-plan living, a strong connection between indoors and outdoors, and the use of timeless, low-maintenance materials.
Challenges
The steeply sloping site required a considered approach: living areas placed above, with bedrooms tucked into the landscape below. Planning constraints added complexity in carefully weaving the old cottage into the new design.
Our Response
We shaped the home around the land itself, stepping into the slope, capturing light and framing views. The upper ground level is arranged around an open living hub of kitchen, dining, and lounge spaces, with a guest bedroom and flexible playroom/study tucked alongside. Below, four further bedrooms, including a master suite, nestle into the landscape with a calm, grounded feel. Ample storage, including a boot room, pantry and linen cupboards, supports everyday living. Natural stone, timber and zinc form a durable palette designed to age gracefully. Outdoor living is integral, with terraces, patios and covered spaces that extend daily life into the garden.
