Client Aspirations
Looking to build their dream home, our clients sought a bespoke contemporary design immersed in natural light. With a vision for contemporary rural living, the client wanted a modern open concept paired with natural finishes that exude cosy warmth. Connection to the outdoors was important and to maximise the views across the countryside.
Challenges
The natural topography of the site, sunk within a valley; proximity of neighbouring house overlooking the site
Our Response
This bespoke 4-bed family home in County Derry has open plan floor plans with the kitchen being the heart of the house. As the home was sunk within a valley, the open plan kitchen/dining/living area is on the first floor with an external covered balcony to maximise the views across the picturesque landscape. Large areas of glazing maximise scenic views while framing each room with sunlight. This site enjoys a secluded but elevated position overlooking the Countryside and enjoys beautiful views to Donegal in the North West and panoramic views of the Causeway Coast and Atlantic Ocean. Locally sourced materials and bespoke details integrate the home into the regional vernacular. The design harmonises contemporary design with natural elements to craft a light-filled sanctuary that feels connected to the land. A soothing neutral palette and tactile natural textures radiate an inviting warmth throughout the home. This bespoke sanctuary blends modern living with an intimate connection to nature. We oriented the floor plan to focus outward toward unobstructed views while minimising direct sight lines to the neighbouring house. The end result is a bright, light-filled contemporary home enveloped in nature but elevated above the ordinary limitations of its sunken valley setting.
